Who is Polestar?

Polestar is a Swedish electric performance car brand established by Volvo Cars and Geely. Its roots are in Volvo’s performance-car world, and it became a standalone brand focused on electric cars. Polestar’s identity brings together restrained Scandinavian design and an emphasis on performance.

Polestar models and how the range developed

The Polestar 1 was a two-door grand tourer with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, combining electric drive with a petrol engine. It appears in the range from 2020 to 2022. The Polestar 2 followed as a fully electric fastback, with the longest run in the figures here, from 2020 to 2025.

The range broadened in 2024 with the Polestar 3 SUV and Polestar 4, a fully electric SUV coupé. Both are listed through 2026. The line-up thus grew from a hybrid grand tourer and electric fastback into a range centred on fully electric cars.

Which Polestar models are most common in Europe?

The Polestar 2 leads EU registrations, with 117,554 from 2020 to 2025. The Polestar 4 follows with 20,646 in 2024–2025, ahead of the Polestar 3, with 4,942 over the same years. The Polestar 1 recorded 360 registrations from 2020 to 2022.

The Polestar 2 has the longest run in these figures. The Polestar 3 and 4 joined the range in 2024, so their registration totals cover a shorter period.

Where can you find Polestar figures?

Polestar figures are available for the European Union, the United States and Canada. EU registration figures show how many cars were registered; US EPA and Canadian NRCan figures report test results. The procedures differ: Europe uses WLTP or, for some earlier results, NEDC; the USA uses EPA procedures, and Canada uses a 5-cycle test. Consumption and emissions figures are best read in the context of the market’s test method.
