What is the Opel Grandland?

The Grandland is a family-sized SUV near the larger end of Opel’s passenger-car range. Its raised seating and roomy cabin make it suited to everyday family use and longer journeys. Since the first generation arrived, the model has expanded from petrol and diesel power to include hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric versions.

Grandland generations

The first Grandland generation ran from 2017 to 2024, establishing the model as a compact family SUV. It was offered with petrol and diesel engines, with hybrid and plug-in hybrid choices added later. The second generation began in 2024, bringing fully electric power alongside hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions. It also introduced a new design and Stellantis’s STLA Medium platform, developed for electrified vehicles.

Engines, power and consumption

Across European Union registration figures for 2017–2025, the Grandland spans engines from 1.2 to 2.0 litres and power from 63 kW (86 PS) to 170 kW (231 PS). The fuel types include petrol, diesel, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, electric and other. Among the most registered configurations are the 1.2-litre petrol with 96 kW (131 PS) and the 1.6-litre diesel with 88 kW (120 PS).

The lowest stated WLTP consumption for petrol, diesel and hybrid versions is 1.6 L/100 km. For plug-in hybrid versions, the lowest weighted figure is 1.1 L/100 km; it assumes some driving is electric, so charging and how the car is used affect real-world consumption. France’s ADEME listing for 2026 gives a 1.5-litre diesel with 96 kW (131 PS) and 4.9 L/100 km on WLTP. European WLTP figures are not directly comparable with US EPA or Canadian 5-cycle results, which use different test procedures.

Where was it sold?

European Union registration figures span 2017–2025 and total 577,759 Grandlands. France’s ADEME listing covers a diesel version for 2026. Opel was founded in Rüsselsheim, Germany, and the Grandland shows how the brand’s SUV range has added electrified powertrains.
