What is the Lotus Emira?

The Emira is a two-seat, mid-engined sports coupe and Lotus’s modern petrol-powered sports car. Its engine sits behind the seats, in a layout that has long been part of the brand’s sports-car identity. The Emira’s rounded, contemporary styling gives the familiar coupe shape a fresh look.

Founded by Colin Chapman, Lotus grew from an engineering and racing concern into a specialist sports-car maker. The Emira carries that sporting identity into a new generation, with a choice of four-cylinder turbo and supercharged V6 engines.

Generations and design

The Emira’s first generation, Type 131, began in 2022 and continues today. Its sculpted shape updates the mid-engined Lotus coupe while keeping the two-seat format.

Engines, power and fuel use

The petrol engines range from 2.0 to 3.5 litres. EU and UK figures list outputs from 268 kW (364 PS) to 298 kW (405 PS). The 2.0-litre version has the lower listed output; the 3.5-litre V6 sits at the top of the range.

The lowest listed consumption is 9.2 L/100 km on the WLTP test in EU and UK figures. In the United States, the EPA listing gives 11.2 L/100 km and a best combined figure of 21 MPG. These figures use different test procedures, so they are not directly comparable.

Where was the Emira sold?

The Emira appears in EU registration figures from 2022 to 2025, in UK VCA figures for 2026, and in US EPA figures from 2024 to 2027. EU registrations total 1,290 cars over the years shown. The listed versions in all three markets use petrol engines.
