What kind of car is the Kia Rondo?

The Kia Rondo is a compact MPV, with a tall body and a cabin designed around passenger space and everyday practicality. Kia sold this model as the Carens in Europe and as the Rondo in North America. It brought the flexible layout of a people carrier to a relatively compact family car.

Kia’s 2013 Carens was described as a compact MPV with a choice of five or seven seats. That family-focused approach carried into the Rondo name in Canada, where the second generation continued after the US sales period ended.

What are the Kia Rondo generations?

The first generation, code UN, was sold in the United States and Canada from 2007 to 2012. The second generation, code RP, followed in Canada from 2013 to 2017.

The Rondo also appears in European Union registration figures for 2014, within the second generation’s years. That year, the figures list one petrol version.

Engines and fuel consumption

The US range covered petrol engines from 2.4 to 2.7 litres; Canada’s range covered 2.0 to 2.7 litres. The European Union registration entry identifies a 1.6-litre petrol engine producing 99 kW (135 PS).

The lowest listed US consumption is 10.7 L/100 km, and the best combined EPA rating is 22 MPG. Canada’s lowest listed consumption is 8.9 L/100 km on the NRCan 5-cycle test. These results use different procedures: WLTP or NEDC in Europe, EPA in the United States and the 5-cycle test in Canada.

Where was the Kia Rondo sold?

The Rondo was sold in the United States and Canada. The first generation ran in both markets from 2007 to 2012, while the second generation continued in Canada from 2013 to 2017. European Union registration figures list 12 examples of the 1.6-litre petrol version in 2014.
