What is the Jaguar XJS?
The XJS is a luxury grand tourer, first offered as a coupé and later also as an open-top car. Jaguar designed it for relaxed, high-speed touring, with distinctive styling that set it apart from the marque’s saloons. A cabriolet and then a fully folding convertible broadened the range.
XJS generations
The generation listings identify a second generation, XJ27 (1982–1991), and a third generation, also XJ27 (1992–1996). The XJS began as a coupé, gained a cabriolet soft-top, and later a fully folding convertible. A substantial restyle arrived in 1991. The final years included a 6.0-litre V12 and a 4.0-litre six-cylinder engine. Jaguar Heritage records production ending in 1996, ahead of the XK8.
