What is the Maserati Biturbo?

The Biturbo is a compact Maserati coupé introduced in 1981. Its twin-turbo V6 and luxurious interior brought the marque’s sporting character to a smaller car. Maserati’s classic-car history describes it as a turning point for the company.

The Biturbo’s compact 90-degree V6 used two small turbochargers, an unusual arrangement for a production car at the time. The result was a distinctive take on the sporting coupé, with a cabin intended for everyday driving as well as longer trips.

Generations and engines

The Biturbo generation ran from 1981 to 1988 under the AM331 code. Maserati developed several versions, including the Biturbo S, then the fuel-injected Biturbo i and Si. The twin-turbo V6 remained central to the range.

The US EPA figures cover petrol versions with a 2.5 L engine from 1984 to 1987.
