What is the Infiniti EX?

The Infiniti EX is a compact luxury crossover with a raised driving position and a footprint closer to a passenger car than a large SUV. It was one of the smaller crossovers in Infiniti’s range, aimed at drivers looking for a more compact vehicle with crossover practicality. The EX name was later replaced by QX50 in Infiniti’s revised naming scheme. Infiniti, Nissan’s luxury marque, launched in 1989.

Generations and engines

The first generation, known by the J50 code, ran from 2008 to 2013. Infiniti later used the QX50 name for the model in some markets, carrying the J50 across the change in naming. The EX’s engine range ran from 3.0 L to 3.7 L. Official European figures give power from 175 kW (238 PS) to 235 kW (320 PS); the 3.0 L diesel producing 175 kW was a prominent version in European registrations.

How economical is the Infiniti EX?

UK and French NEDC figures give a lowest consumption of 8.5 L/100 km. In the United States, the EPA’s best combined rating is 20 MPG, with a lowest stated consumption of 11.8 L/100 km. Canada’s NRCan 5-cycle figure also reaches 11.8 L/100 km. These results use different test procedures: NEDC in the European figures, EPA testing in the US and the 5-cycle procedure in Canada.

The EX appears in official European Union registration figures from 2010 to 2014, as well as UK and French figures. US and Canadian listings cover 2008 to 2013. European versions included petrol and diesel engines; the listed North American versions were petrol.
