What is the Acura TL?
The Acura TL is a four-door sedan that sat above the TSX in Acura’s North American range. It gave the brand a roomier sedan, with petrol V6 engines across the US and Canadian ranges. As Honda’s premium marque, Acura combined familiar engineering foundations with a more upscale cabin and a sportier emphasis.
The fourth-generation TL offered Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive, or SH-AWD, on some versions. This brought an all-wheel-drive option to the range.
TL generations
The third generation, UA6 and UA7, ran from 2004 to 2008. It continued the TL’s established sedan format and dropped the engine-size number from its name.
The fourth generation, UA8 and UA9, followed from 2009 to 2014. It brought a more assertive design, larger petrol engines and SH-AWD as an option. The TL ended after this generation, when Acura introduced the TLX.
Engines and power
The US and Canadian TL ranges used petrol engines from 3.2 L to 3.7 L. The third generation included a 3.2 L V6, while the later range included larger engines. Some fourth-generation versions paired a 3.7 L V6 with SH-AWD.
Fuel consumption and where it was sold
The TL was sold in the United States from 2004 to 2014 and in Canada from 2005 to 2014. US EPA figures give a best combined rating of 23 MPG and lowest listed consumption of 10.2 L/100 km. Canadian NRCan figures give lowest listed consumption of 10.1 L/100 km on the 5-cycle test. The EPA and Canadian 5-cycle procedures differ, so their results are not directly comparable.
