What is the Acura RL?
The Acura RL is a four-door luxury sedan that took over from the 3.5RL as the flagship of Acura’s North American range. The second generation introduced Super Handling All-Wheel Drive, or SH-AWD, on the 2005 RL. The system can distribute torque between the front and rear axles, as well as between the rear wheels, helping the car respond through a corner.
Known by chassis codes KB1 and KB2, the second-generation RL was sold from 2005 to 2012. It followed the 3.5RL, whose first generation ran from 1996 to 2004.
Engines and power
Across its run, the RL used petrol engines from 3.5 to 3.7 litres. SH-AWD combined all-wheel drive with active torque distribution.
How economical is the Acura RL?
In the United States, the EPA combined rating reaches 20 MPG, and the lowest listed consumption is 11.8 L/100 km. Canada’s lowest listed figure is 11.9 L/100 km under the NRCan 5-cycle procedure. These tests differ, so the results are best considered within their own market.
The RL was sold in the United States and Canada from 2005 to 2012.
