What is the Acura 3.2TL?

The 3.2TL was a V6 luxury sedan in Acura’s TL line. Its second generation brought a redesigned body, engine and chassis, with the engine mounted transversely. Acura is Honda’s luxury marque, and the TL was one of its core sedans.

Generations and design

The 3.2TL name refers to the TL’s second generation, sold from 1999 to 2003. It was a substantial redesign, with a new body, engine and chassis. In 2002, Acura updated the styling and added the Type-S, which brought a sport-tuned suspension and a more powerful V6 while keeping the TL’s four-door layout.

Engines and power

The 3.2TL used a 3.2-litre petrol V6. For the 2000 model year, a five-speed automatic replaced the earlier four-speed. The Type-S joined the range in 2002 with a higher-output version of the V6.

Fuel consumption and where it was sold

US EPA figures cover 1999–2003 and give a best combined rating of 21 mpg, with the lowest listed consumption at 11.2 L/100 km. Canada’s NRCan figures span 1996–2004 and list a lowest consumption of 11.3 L/100 km under the 5-cycle procedure. The Canadian span includes years outside the second-generation TL’s 1999–2003 run. EPA and Canadian 5-cycle tests differ, so their results are best read within their own markets. The TL was sold in both the United States and Canada.
