OBD-II fault code

U0411: Invalid Data Received From Drive Motor Control Module A

What it means

A control module received data from Drive Motor Control Module A that it judged invalid or implausible. This code identifies the rejected data, but does not by itself identify the cause.

How it works

Drive Motor Control Module A reports operating data for drive motor A to other vehicle modules over the network. U0411 sets when a receiving module judges that data implausible and rejects it; the code does not by itself identify a motor or battery failure.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Fault or implausible input at Drive Motor Control Module A
  2. Damaged or loose network wiring or connector
  3. Module power, ground, or programming issue

Symptoms

  • Hybrid or EV warning message
  • Drive motor functions may be limited
  • Other communication codes

How to diagnose it

  1. Scan all modules and save freeze-frame data to identify the receiving module and any drive motor A, hybrid/EV, or network codes logged with U0411.
  2. Check the instrument-panel messages and live data for drive motor A status, power limits, or unavailable values.
  3. Inspect accessible low-voltage connectors and network wiring for the drive motor control module for looseness, corrosion, or damage; do not disturb high-voltage components.
  4. Check the module's low-voltage power and ground circuits against the manufacturer's specification.
  5. Compare drive motor A reported values with related module data using a scan tool capable of hybrid or EV diagnostics.
  6. If wiring and power are sound, verify module configuration and software and check network communication using the manufacturer's procedure.

Common fixes

  • Repair damaged or corroded low-voltage wiring or connector terminals to drive motor control module A.
  • Repair a faulty low-voltage power or ground connection found during testing.
  • Correct module A software or configuration incompatibility.
  • Replace drive motor control module A only if testing confirms an internal fault.

Can I keep driving?

If a hybrid or EV warning appears, power is limited, or the vehicle behaves unpredictably, stop in a safe place and arrange appropriate service. Do not handle high-voltage components; continued driving could leave you without expected drive power.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
