OBD-II fault code

U0413: Invalid Data Received From Battery Energy Control Module B

What it means

A control module received data from Battery Energy Control Module B that it judged invalid or implausible. This code identifies the rejected data, but does not by itself identify the cause.

How it works

Battery Energy Control Module B monitors the high-voltage battery and reports battery status and control information to other modules. U0413 sets when a receiving module judges information from this specific battery control module invalid or implausible; it does not establish whether the sender, its inputs, or the network caused the problem.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Fault or implausible input at Battery Energy Control Module B
  2. Damaged or loose network wiring or connector
  3. Module power, ground, or programming issue

Symptoms

  • Hybrid or EV warning message
  • Battery or related functions may be limited
  • Other communication codes

How to diagnose it

  1. Scan all modules and save freeze-frame and communication data before clearing codes to see which module rejected Battery Energy Control Module B data and what other faults were present.
  2. Check battery and hybrid system live data for values reported by Module B that are missing, erratic, or inconsistent with other battery readings.
  3. With the vehicle powered down as specified by the manufacturer, inspect Module B's accessible connectors and network wiring for looseness, corrosion, moisture, or damage; do not disturb high-voltage components.
  4. Check for related sensor or battery faults stored by Battery Energy Control Module B, since an implausible input there can make its transmitted data unreliable.
  5. If wiring and input faults are not found, test the module's power, ground, and network circuits to the manufacturer's specification, then check for applicable programming or module faults.

Common fixes

  • Secure or repair a loose, corroded, or damaged Module B connector or network wire.
  • Repair the battery sensor or input fault identified in Module B's own codes and live data.
  • Restore the module's power or ground connection if testing finds a fault.
  • Apply the correct module software update or replace the module only if circuit and input tests support it.

Can I keep driving?

Because battery management may be limited, follow any hybrid or EV warning and stop safely if the vehicle reports a battery fault, reduced power, or overheating. Avoid relying on the vehicle for a long trip until the warning and related codes are diagnosed.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
