OBD-II fault code

U0410: Invalid Data Received from Parking Brake Control Module

What it means

A control module received data from the Parking Brake Control Module that it judged invalid or implausible. The code alone does not establish that the parking brake is applied or identify which reported value was rejected.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the warning light of the system that lost communication

How it works

The parking brake control module reports parking-brake status and related information to other vehicle modules over the network. U0410 sets when a receiving module rejects that data as implausible; it does not establish that the brake is applied or identify which status value was rejected.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Fault or implausible input at the sending module
  2. Damaged or loose network wiring or connector
  3. Module power, ground, or programming issue

Symptoms

  • Parking brake warning or message
  • Parking brake or related functions may be limited
  • Other communication codes

How to diagnose it

  1. Scan all modules and save freeze-frame data to identify the receiving module and any parking-brake, stability-control, or network codes logged with U0410.
  2. Check the dashboard message and scan-tool status to determine whether the parking brake is reported as applied, released, or unavailable.
  3. Inspect the parking brake control module connector and visible network wiring for looseness, corrosion, or damage.
  4. Check module power and ground, then test related switch and status circuits against the manufacturer's specification.
  5. Use live data to compare parking-brake command and reported state while operating the control, following the vehicle's safe service procedure.
  6. If wiring and inputs are sound, verify module configuration and software and investigate network faults using the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.

Common fixes

  • Repair a loose, corroded, or damaged parking brake module connector or network wire.
  • Repair a failed power, ground, switch, or status circuit confirmed by testing.
  • Correct module configuration or software incompatibility.
  • Replace the parking brake control module only if testing confirms an internal fault.

Can I keep driving?

Confirm the parking brake fully releases and the vehicle holds securely when parked before driving. If brake status is uncertain, the brake drags, or a brake warning remains on, do not drive until it is checked.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
