OBD-II fault code

U059C: Invalid Data Received From Drive Motor Control Module C

What it means

A receiving module detected implausible data from drive motor control module C. Torque, speed or current values fail plausibility checks and are rejected.

How it works

Drive motor control module C manages a drive motor and reports operating data such as torque, speed, or current to other controllers. U059C is set when a receiving module judges data from controller C implausible and rejects it; the code does not by itself prove the motor is faulty.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Module internal fault or sensor input drift
  2. Software version mismatch after replacement
  3. Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly

Symptoms

  • Multiple warning lights may illuminate
  • Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
  • Specific functions inoperative depending on module
  • Diagnostic tools may show communication faults

How to diagnose it

  1. Scan every module and save freeze-frame data to identify the reporting module and check for related drive-motor, inverter, or network codes.
  2. Check the 12-volt supply and grounds for controller C, since unstable module power can corrupt reported values or communication.
  3. Inspect controller C's accessible connectors and harness for damage, corrosion, moisture, or loose terminals.
  4. Review live data for motor C's reported torque, speed, and current alongside related vehicle and motor status values, looking for dropouts or contradictions.
  5. If controller C or the gateway was recently replaced or updated, verify software compatibility and required configuration.
  6. If the code returns, test the network path and controller C's inputs and outputs according to the manufacturer's procedure before condemning the controller.

Common fixes

  • Repair damaged wiring or clean and secure controller C's connector and ground.
  • Correct a weak 12-volt supply or ground fault affecting the controller.
  • Update or configure a replaced controller or gateway to the required vehicle software.
  • Replace drive motor control module C only after its power, network, and motor data have been checked.

Can I keep driving?

If the vehicle shows reduced power, drive-system warnings, or unpredictable propulsion, stop safely and arrange diagnosis before continuing. Invalid motor C data can cause the vehicle to limit drive output or disable part of the propulsion system.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
