OBD-II fault code

U0265: Lost Communication With Image Processing Sensor A

What it means

The vehicle bus reports loss of communication with image processing sensor A. ADAS functions that depend on this camera (lane keeping, traffic-sign recognition, forward collision warning) may be inhibited.

How it works

Image processing sensor A analyzes camera data and shares information used by driver-assistance systems over the vehicle network. U0265 sets when another module stops receiving expected messages from sensor A specifically, which can disable assistance features that depend on that sensor; it does not identify the failed circuit or establish that every camera-based feature is affected.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Bus wiring open or shorted
  2. Module without power or ground
  3. Module failed

Symptoms

  • Multiple warning lights may illuminate
  • Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
  • Specific functions inoperative depending on module
  • Diagnostic tools may show communication faults

How to diagnose it

  1. Scan all modules and record current communication codes, freeze-frame context, and which driver-assistance warnings appeared with U0265.
  2. Check whether image processing sensor A responds to the scan tool and identify which assistance functions the vehicle says are unavailable.
  3. Inspect sensor A's camera area, connector, and accessible wiring for obstruction, impact damage, moisture, looseness, or chafing.
  4. Check the sensor's power and ground circuits against the manufacturer's information before concluding the sensor itself has failed.
  5. If supplies are correct, test the network wiring to sensor A for an open or short and follow manufacturer guidance for any required camera alignment after repair.

Common fixes

  • Clear an obstruction or restore a displaced sensor A connection if inspection identifies one.
  • Repair damaged or corroded wiring and connectors to sensor A.
  • Restore the sensor's failed power or ground supply.
  • Replace and configure sensor A only after its supply and network circuits pass, then perform required calibration.

Can I keep driving?

Assume the driver-assistance features that depend on sensor A may be unavailable, and do not rely on lane keeping, traffic-sign recognition, or forward collision alerts while the warning is present. Drive attentively and leave extra space; stop safely if other warnings indicate braking or steering assistance is affected.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
