OBD-II fault code

U026D: Lost Communication With Image Processing Sensor I

What it means

The vehicle bus reports loss of communication with image processing sensor I. ADAS functions that depend on this camera (lane keeping, traffic-sign recognition, forward collision warning) may be inhibited.

How it works

Image processing sensor I is a camera-based module that sends visual data to other vehicle systems over the network. The receiving module sets U026D when it cannot communicate with sensor I, so driver-assistance features that rely on that sensor may be unavailable.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Bus wiring open or shorted
  2. Module without power or ground
  3. Module failed

Symptoms

  • Multiple warning lights may illuminate
  • Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
  • Specific functions inoperative depending on module
  • Diagnostic tools may show communication faults

How to diagnose it

  1. Scan all modules for communication codes and note which module reports U026D and whether other network faults appeared at the same time.
  2. Review freeze-frame or fault records and live module status to see when sensor I stopped responding and whether its communication loss is current.
  3. Inspect sensor I's connector and the wiring along its harness for looseness, corrosion, water intrusion, pin damage, or chafing.
  4. Check the sensor I power and ground circuits under the conditions specified by the manufacturer, since a missing supply can make a healthy module disappear from the network.
  5. Test the relevant bus wiring for opens, shorts, or poor connections using the manufacturer's procedure, then assess sensor I itself if its power, ground, and network circuits are sound.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect or clean and secure sensor I's connector if its terminals are dirty or loose.
  • Repair damaged or chafed wiring in sensor I's power, ground, or communication circuits.
  • Restore a failed power or ground connection to sensor I.
  • Replace sensor I if its supplies and bus connections are correct but it still does not communicate.

Can I keep driving?

You can usually drive cautiously if steering and braking work normally, but do not rely on lane keeping, traffic-sign recognition, or collision warning functions that use sensor I. Allow extra following distance and get the fault checked promptly because those driver aids may remain unavailable.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
