What it means
The vehicle bus reports loss of communication with image processing sensor D. ADAS functions that depend on this camera (lane keeping, traffic-sign recognition, forward collision warning) may be inhibited.
How it works
Image processing sensor D analyzes camera input and reports information to other vehicle modules over the network. U0268 sets when those modules stop receiving expected messages from sensor D, which may inhibit functions assigned to this sensor; it does not establish that the other image processing sensors are faulty.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Bus wiring open or shorted
- Module without power or ground
- Module failed
Symptoms
- Multiple warning lights may illuminate
- Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
- Specific functions inoperative depending on module
- Diagnostic tools may show communication faults
How to diagnose it
- Scan all modules and record current codes, freeze-frame conditions, and any driver-assistance messages that appeared with U0268.
- Check whether sensor D communicates with the scan tool and note which assistance features are specifically reported as unavailable.
- Inspect sensor D's camera area, connector, and accessible wiring for a blocked view, impact damage, moisture, corrosion, or looseness.
- Test the sensor's power and ground circuits against the manufacturer's information.
- If power and ground are correct, test the bus wiring to sensor D for an open or short and check whether calibration is required after repair.
Common fixes
- Remove any obstruction and reconnect sensor D if inspection identifies a simple issue.
- Repair damaged or corroded wiring to sensor D.
- Restore a failed power or ground supply.
- Replace and configure sensor D only after its circuits are verified, then perform required calibration.
Can I keep driving?
Do not rely on driver-assistance features that use sensor D while this fault is present; maintain lane position and following distance yourself. If other warnings indicate braking or steering assistance is affected, stop safely and seek help before continuing.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
