What it means
The temperature sensor at the turbocharger compressor outlet reports a generic fault. Charge air temperature post-compressor is unreliable.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The turbocharger compressor outlet temperature sensor measures charge air temperature after it leaves the compressor. The control module uses that reading to manage engine operation and protect the turbocharged system. This code sets when the sensor circuit has a fault, so the reported post-compressor temperature may not be reliable.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Temperature sensor failed
- Wiring fault
Symptoms
- Check-engine light may illuminate
- Engine performance may be reduced
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and review compressor outlet temperature live data alongside engine load and other intake temperature readings.
- Inspect the compressor outlet temperature sensor connector and nearby harness for looseness, oil contamination, heat damage, or chafing.
- Check whether the live reading changes plausibly as boost and engine load change.
- Test the sensor circuit and sensor response using the manufacturer's procedure and specification.
- Repair wiring or connector faults, then replace the sensor if it fails testing.
Common fixes
- Reconnect or clean the compressor outlet temperature sensor connector.
- Repair damaged wiring in the sensor circuit.
- Replace the turbocharger compressor outlet temperature sensor if it fails testing.
Can I keep driving?
Because the engine may limit power or enter a protective mode, avoid towing, hard acceleration, and high boost. If power drops sharply or a hybrid or engine warning escalates, stop somewhere safe and arrange diagnosis.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
