What it means
The DC/AC converter A has detected input voltage below its expected range. The effect on converter operation depends on the vehicle design.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
DC/AC converter A changes direct current into alternating current for vehicle functions that depend on that converter. The control module monitors the voltage supplied to converter A and sets this code when its input falls below the expected range. A low vehicle supply or a poor connection in the feed can reduce or disable converter operation.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Low supply voltage
- Wiring or connection fault
Symptoms
- Check-engine or hybrid-system warning light
- Reduced or disabled converter operation
- Vehicle may limit power or stop charging
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check which converter A functions or charging conditions were active when the input voltage fell low.
- Check the vehicle's relevant supply voltage and warning messages using the scan tool and the manufacturer's service information.
- Inspect the converter A power connections, grounds, and accessible harness for looseness, corrosion, damage, or overheating.
- Measure voltage at the converter A input under the conditions specified by the manufacturer and compare it with the manufacturer's specification.
- Trace any low reading upstream through the supply wiring and connections before considering a converter fault.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure a loose converter A power or ground connection.
- Repair damaged or high-resistance wiring in the converter A supply circuit.
- Address the upstream low supply voltage condition identified by testing.
- Replace converter A only if its input supply is correct and it fails the manufacturer's tests.
Can I keep driving?
Converter-related functions or charging may be reduced or disabled, and the vehicle may limit power. Avoid relying on affected charging or electrical functions; if a hybrid-system warning appears or power is limited, stop safely and seek prompt service.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
