What it means
Battery charger B reports a output voltage performance condition. HV charging operation may be impaired.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Battery charger B converts incoming charging power for the vehicle’s high-voltage battery. The control module compares charger B’s output voltage with the expected value under the present charging load; it sets this code when voltage performance is outside the expected range, without necessarily being simply too low.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Output regulator drifted
- Load mismatch
Symptoms
- Charge status indicator shows fault
- Charging may not start or interrupts
- Slower-than-expected charge rate
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check charging status and charger B voltage data to see when the deviation occurs.
- Try a known suitable charging source and cable, and note whether the fault follows a particular EVSE or charging condition.
- With charging safely stopped, inspect accessible charger B connectors and wiring for looseness, damage, corrosion, or signs of overheating.
- Compare commanded and measured charger B output voltage during an approved charging test to determine whether the deviation tracks load.
- Check the charger’s output regulator and related circuitry against the manufacturer’s diagnostic procedure and specification.
Common fixes
- Correct a poor connection or damaged accessible charger B wiring.
- Resolve an incompatible or abnormal charging load or charging-source issue.
- Repair or replace charger B’s output regulator if testing confirms drift.
- Repair or replace the charger B assembly if its output remains out of specification.
Can I keep driving?
Charging may be slow, interrupted, or unavailable, and the vehicle may limit hybrid or electric operation. Avoid relying on the vehicle until charging is reliable; stop if a high-voltage or overheating warning appears.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
