OBD-II fault code

P0E67: Battery Charger Control Circuit High

What it means

The control module detects voltage above the expected range in the battery charger control circuit. The effect on charging depends on the vehicle.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The battery charger control circuit carries a signal that the control module uses to operate or monitor the charger. P0E67 sets when the module sees voltage above the circuit’s expected range, which can prevent it from recognizing the proper control signal and interfere with charging.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Wire shorted to B+
  2. Module input open
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Charge status indicator shows fault
  • Charging may not start or interrupts
  • Slower-than-expected charge rate

How to diagnose it

  1. Use a scan tool to record freeze-frame data and view the charger control signal during a charging attempt.
  2. With the vehicle safely powered down, inspect the control wire and connectors for damage, corrosion, or a short to battery positive.
  3. Check that the control-circuit connector is fully seated and its pins make sound contact.
  4. Measure the circuit against the manufacturer’s specification and check for a short to B+ or an open module input using the service procedure.
  5. If external wiring is sound, test the control module input following the manufacturer’s diagnostic steps.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure corroded or loose control-circuit connector pins.
  • Repair wiring shorted to B+.
  • Repair an open or damaged control-circuit connection.
  • Repair or replace the control module if its input is confirmed open or faulty.

Can I keep driving?

Do not rely on normal charging until the fault is diagnosed, since the vehicle may not charge or may stop charging unexpectedly. Limit trips if electric range is low and heed any high-voltage system warning or reduced-power condition.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
