What it means
Battery charger B reports a output voltage too low condition. HV charging operation may be impaired.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Battery charger B supplies controlled output to the high-voltage battery during charging. The control module monitors charger B’s output voltage and sets this code when it falls below the expected level, which can prevent charging from completing normally.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Output regulator low
- Increased internal loss
Symptoms
- Charge status indicator shows fault
- Charging may not start or interrupts
- Slower-than-expected charge rate
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and review charger B output voltage and charging status to confirm the low-voltage event.
- Check whether the problem occurs with more than one suitable EVSE and cable, since a source or connection issue can affect charging.
- With charging stopped, inspect accessible charger B connectors and wiring for damage, corrosion, loose terminals, or heat marks.
- During an approved charging test, compare commanded and actual charger B output voltage under load.
- Test the output regulator and internal voltage drop using the manufacturer’s diagnostic procedure and specification.
Common fixes
- Repair a loose, corroded, or damaged charger B connection or wire.
- Correct a charging-source or cable problem if the fault is limited to that setup.
- Repair or replace the output regulator if it cannot maintain the specified voltage.
- Replace or repair charger B if internal losses keep its output below specification.
Can I keep driving?
Charging may fail or take longer, and the vehicle may restrict electric or hybrid operation. Avoid depending on the vehicle for a trip that requires a full charge; stop if a high-voltage or overheating warning appears.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
