What it means
The current sensor for drive motor A phase Y reports a circuit high fault. Phase current measurement is unreliable.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The phase Y current sensor on drive motor A measures current in phase Y for the control module. P2E22 sets when its circuit signal is higher than the expected level, so the module cannot use that phase Y measurement reliably.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Current sensor failed
- Wiring fault
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced motor power or torque
- Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown
How to diagnose it
- Use a scan tool to save freeze-frame data and check whether the high phase Y signal occurs at startup or only while the motor is producing torque.
- Compare live phase Y current-sensor data with phases X and Z under the same conditions to confirm the phase-specific fault.
- With the vehicle safely disabled according to its service instructions, inspect the phase Y connector and harness for corrosion, moisture, damaged pins, or a signal wire shorted to power.
- Test the phase Y circuit for shorts to power, damaged wiring, and poor connections using the manufacturer's procedure.
- If the circuit checks pass, test the phase Y sensor against the manufacturer's specification before suspecting the control module.
Common fixes
- Repair a phase Y signal wire shorted to power or other damaged wiring.
- Clean, reseat, or repair the phase Y connector if its pins are loose or corroded.
- Replace the phase Y current sensor if its signal remains high with a verified circuit.
- Repair or replace the control module only when testing confirms an internal fault.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid hard acceleration and other high-load driving because the system may reduce motor torque or enter limp mode. Stop safely if power drops substantially or a shutdown warning appears.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
