What it means
The current sensor for drive motor A phase Y reports a circuit fault. Phase current measurement is unreliable.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Drive motor A uses a phase Y current sensor to report that phase's current to the control module, separately from phases X and Z. P2E1F sets when the phase Y sensor circuit has a detected electrical fault and the module cannot rely on its reading.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Current sensor failed
- Wiring fault
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced motor power or torque
- Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown
How to diagnose it
- Use a scan tool to record freeze-frame data and check whether phase Y data drops out or becomes abnormal at startup or during motor operation.
- Compare live phase Y current data with phases X and Z under the same conditions to identify whether the fault is confined to phase Y.
- With the vehicle safely disabled according to its service instructions, inspect the phase Y sensor plug and harness for damage, loose fit, contamination, or corrosion.
- Check the phase Y circuit wiring and connections for opens, shorts, poor grounds, or intermittent contact using the manufacturer's procedure.
- If the circuit is intact, test the phase Y current sensor against the manufacturer's specification and investigate the control module only if sensor and wiring checks pass.
Common fixes
- Reconnect and secure a loose phase Y sensor connector.
- Repair damaged or chafed wiring in the phase Y sensor circuit.
- Clean or repair a contaminated or corroded phase Y connector.
- Replace the phase Y current sensor if it fails testing with a verified circuit.
Can I keep driving?
Keep driving to a minimum and avoid demanding acceleration because motor torque may be reduced or the vehicle may enter limp mode. Stop safely if power becomes unpredictable or a shutdown warning appears.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
