OBD-II fault code

P2E26: Drive Motor A Phase Z Current Sensor Circuit High

What it means

The current sensor for drive motor A phase Z reports a circuit high fault. Phase current measurement is unreliable.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Drive motor A uses separate phase-current sensing to help its controller regulate torque and detect electrical imbalance. The controller monitors the phase Z sensor circuit and sets P2E26 when its signal is higher than the expected range, making the phase Z current reading unreliable.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Current sensor failed
  2. Wiring fault
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced motor power or torque
  • Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and scan live data for drive motor A phase Z current and related sensor faults to see when the high reading occurs.
  2. With the vehicle powered down as specified by the manufacturer, inspect the phase Z current sensor connector and wiring for corrosion, damage, loose pins, or signs of overheating.
  3. Check the connector terminals and sensor supply, ground, and signal wiring for poor contact or an open circuit, following the manufacturer's wiring information.
  4. Measure the phase Z sensor signal and compare it with the manufacturer's specification, checking whether the high reading remains with the circuit connected and during the specified isolation tests.
  5. If the wiring and connections pass, test the phase Z current sensor and replace it only if its output is outside the manufacturer's specification.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure corroded or loose phase Z sensor connector terminals.
  • Repair damaged phase Z sensor wiring or a poor ground connection.
  • Replace the drive motor A phase Z current sensor if its signal remains too high after wiring checks.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid hard acceleration and continued driving if motor power is reduced or the vehicle enters limp mode; it may shut down or lose drive. If warnings worsen or propulsion becomes unreliable, stop somewhere safe and arrange assistance.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
