What it means
The current sensor for drive motor A phase X reports a circuit low fault. Phase current measurement is unreliable.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Drive motor A has a current sensor for each phase; this code concerns phase X. P2E1D sets when the phase X sensor circuit signal is below the level the control module expects, leaving phase X current measurement unreliable.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Current sensor failed
- Wiring fault
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced motor power or torque
- Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown
How to diagnose it
- Use a scan tool to save freeze-frame data and check whether the low phase X reading occurs at startup, under motor load, or continuously.
- Compare live phase X current-sensor data with phases Y and Z to see whether the low reading is isolated to phase X.
- With the vehicle safely disabled according to its service instructions, inspect the phase X connector and harness for loose pins, corrosion, damage, or a short to ground.
- Check the phase X circuit's power, ground, and signal wiring for opens, shorts, and excessive connection resistance using the manufacturer's procedure.
- If the circuit checks pass, test the phase X sensor against the manufacturer's specification and replace it only if it fails.
Common fixes
- Reconnect a loose phase X sensor plug and secure the harness.
- Clean or repair corroded phase X connector pins and restore a sound connection.
- Repair an open, shorted, or damaged wire in the phase X sensor circuit.
- Replace the phase X current sensor if its output remains low with a verified circuit.
Can I keep driving?
Limit driving and avoid acceleration that demands high motor torque; the vehicle may reduce power, enter limp mode, or shut down. If the warning indicates imminent shutdown or the vehicle cannot maintain safe traffic speed, stop safely and arrange service.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
