What it means
The current sensor for drive motor A phase X reports a circuit range/performance fault. Phase current measurement is unreliable.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Drive motor A uses separate phase X, Y, and Z current sensors so its control module can track current in each motor phase and manage torque. P2E1C sets when the phase X reading is outside the expected operating range or does not behave consistently with the system's operating conditions.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Current sensor failed
- Wiring fault
- Sensor element aged beyond calibration window
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced motor power or torque
- Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown
How to diagnose it
- Use a scan tool to record freeze-frame data and check whether the fault appears with particular motor load, speed, or temperature.
- Compare live phase X current data with phases Y and Z under the same operating conditions, following the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.
- With the vehicle safely disabled according to its service instructions, inspect the phase X sensor connector and harness for damage, loose fit, contamination, or corrosion.
- Check the phase X sensor wiring and its power, ground, and signal circuits for opens, shorts, or poor connections using the manufacturer's procedure.
- If the wiring and connections pass, test the phase X sensor and compare its response with the manufacturer's specification before considering a control-module fault.
Common fixes
- Repair damaged, loose, or chafed wiring in the phase X sensor circuit.
- Clean or repair a contaminated or corroded phase X connector and restore a secure connection.
- Replace the phase X current sensor if its readings remain out of range or inconsistent after circuit checks.
- Repair or replace the control module only if its relevant circuit checks identify a module fault.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid hard acceleration and high-load driving because the vehicle may limit motor torque or enter limp mode. If power drops sharply or the vehicle warns that it may shut down, stop somewhere safe and arrange service.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
