OBD-II fault code

P0BEE: Drive Motor A Phase W Current Sensor Circuit Range/Performance

What it means

The current sensor for drive motor A phase W reports a circuit range/performance fault. Phase current measurement is unreliable.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The inverter uses drive motor A’s phase W current sensor to track current flowing in that motor phase. This code sets when the sensor signal is present but falls outside the expected range or does not respond as expected, which can lead the module to limit motor power.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Current sensor offset drifted
  2. Magnetic offset
  3. Sensor element aged beyond calibration window

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced motor power or torque
  • Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown

How to diagnose it

  1. Capture freeze-frame data and observe live drive motor A phase W current readings to see whether the value is biased or behaves differently from phases U and V.
  2. With the high-voltage system made safe according to the manufacturer's procedure, inspect the phase W sensor, connector, and nearby harness for damage, corrosion, loose pins, or magnetic material near the sensor.
  3. Check phase W sensor supply, ground, and signal wiring for poor connections or interference using the manufacturer's wiring information.
  4. Compare the phase W reading with the other drive motor A phase readings during equivalent operating conditions to identify a phase-specific offset or response problem.
  5. If wiring and external interference are ruled out, test sensor offset and response using the manufacturer's procedure and replace the sensor if it is outside the permitted calibration range.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure the phase W sensor connector and terminals.
  • Repair damaged or poorly connected phase W sensor wiring.
  • Remove any external magnetic interference identified near the phase W sensor, where applicable.
  • Replace the drive motor A phase W current sensor if its offset or response remains outside specification.

Can I keep driving?

Reduced torque or limp mode can make acceleration unpredictable, so avoid demanding driving and stop safely if the vehicle warns of shutdown or loses drive. A faulty phase reading may cause the system to restrict or disable the motor.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
