OBD-II fault code

P2D7F: Charging Start Switch Circuit High

What it means

The charging start switch reports a circuit high condition. Charging initiation cannot be reliably commanded by the operator.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

The charging start switch sends the driver's request to begin a charging session. The control module sets this code when it sees an abnormally high signal on the start-switch circuit, which can result from a signal wire shorted to battery positive, a switch stuck active, or a poor connector contact.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Signal wire shorted to B+
  2. Switch stuck active
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Charging may not start when requested
  • Charging may start unexpectedly

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and monitor the start-switch status on a scan tool with the switch released and pressed, checking whether the input remains active unexpectedly.
  2. Inspect the start switch and connector for a stuck-active switch, corrosion, loose pins, or damaged wiring.
  3. Using the manufacturer's wiring information, check whether the signal wire is shorted to battery positive and inspect for excessive connector contact resistance.
  4. Test the start switch and circuit in both states against the manufacturer's specification.
  5. Repair the wiring or connector or replace the faulty switch, then verify that charging starts only when requested.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure corroded or loose start-switch connector pins.
  • Repair a signal wire shorted to battery positive.
  • Replace a start switch that remains active or fails its circuit test.

Can I keep driving?

Because charging may start without a dependable request, confirm the session state before leaving the vehicle and stop any unwanted session using the approved control. Keep the vehicle in a safe location if charging cannot be controlled.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
