OBD-II fault code

P2D7D: Charging Stop Switch Circuit Intermittent/Erratic

What it means

The charging stop switch reports a circuit intermittent/erratic condition. Charging termination cannot be reliably commanded by the operator.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

The charging stop switch sends the control module the driver's request to end charging. This code means the stop-switch signal changes unpredictably or drops out intermittently, which can happen with a loose connector, unstable ground reference, or contact that opens under vibration.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Switch connector not seated
  2. Noisy ground reference
  3. Connector with intermittent contact under vibration

Symptoms

  • Charging may stop intermittently or unpredictably
  • Charging session may end unexpectedly

How to diagnose it

  1. Review freeze-frame data and monitor stop-switch status on a scan tool while operating the switch, looking for brief dropouts or unexpected changes.
  2. With charging safely stopped, check that the stop-switch connector is fully seated and inspect its pins and wiring for looseness, corrosion, or vibration damage.
  3. Inspect and test the switch circuit's ground reference and connector contact for instability using the manufacturer's wiring information.
  4. While monitoring the switch signal, carefully move the harness and connector to check for changes that reveal an intermittent contact.
  5. Repair the loose connection or unstable ground, then verify that the stop request remains stable through repeated operations.

Common fixes

  • Reseat and secure the stop-switch connector.
  • Clean or repair loose, corroded, or damaged connector pins.
  • Repair a noisy or damaged ground connection.
  • Replace the switch if its signal remains erratic after circuit repairs.

Can I keep driving?

The stop switch may fail unpredictably, so monitor the session and use the approved alternative termination method if its request is not recognized. Stop charging if you cannot end it safely.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
