What it means
The charging stop switch reports a circuit low condition. Charging termination cannot be reliably commanded by the operator.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
The charging stop switch signals the control system when the driver wants to end charging. The module sets this code when the switch circuit reads too low, such as from a signal shorted to ground or a switch that stays off, so the stop request may not register.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Switch stuck off
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Charging may not stop when requested
- Charging may stop unexpectedly or require manual termination
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and monitor the stop-switch status on a scan tool while pressing and releasing the switch, checking whether the module sees the request.
- With charging safely stopped, inspect the stop switch, connector, and harness for a switch stuck off, corrosion, loose pins, or chafed insulation.
- Check the signal wire for a short to ground and inspect connector pins for excessive contact resistance using the manufacturer's wiring information.
- Test the switch and circuit in released and pressed states against the manufacturer's specification.
- After repair, clear the code and confirm that the stop request is recognized and ends a charging session.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure corroded or loose stop-switch connector pins.
- Repair a signal wire shorted to ground.
- Replace a stop switch that remains off or fails its circuit test.
Can I keep driving?
Do not assume pressing the stop switch will end charging; monitor the session and use the vehicle or charger’s approved termination method if needed. Stop charging if you cannot terminate it safely.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
