What it means
The charging stop switch reports a circuit condition. Charging termination cannot be reliably commanded by the operator.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
The charging stop switch provides the driver's request to end a charging session. The control module monitors its circuit and sets this code when the switch signal or circuit does not behave as expected, so the vehicle may not reliably recognise a stop request.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Switch failed
- Wiring or connector fault
Symptoms
- Charging may not stop when requested
- Charging session may end unexpectedly or require manual termination
How to diagnose it
- Read freeze-frame data and related charging codes to identify whether the fault appeared during a stop request or at another point in the session.
- Use scan-tool data to observe the charging stop switch status while operating the switch, checking whether the reported state changes consistently.
- Inspect the switch, its connector, and accessible wiring for sticking, looseness, corrosion, or damage.
- Test switch continuity and the circuit to the control module against the manufacturer's specification.
- If the switch and wiring pass, check the module input and charging-stop logic using the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.
Common fixes
- Free or replace a sticking or failed charging stop switch.
- Reconnect or repair a loose, corroded, or damaged switch connector.
- Repair an open or shorted charging stop switch wire.
- Repair the module input only if circuit tests identify it as the cause.
Can I keep driving?
Stay with the vehicle during charging until you know the session ends reliably, and use the charging equipment's normal stop controls if the switch does not respond. If charging cannot be stopped safely, follow the vehicle and charger instructions and seek assistance.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
