What it means
The voltage sense circuit B for the generator reports a circuit b condition. Generator output regulation may be impaired.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Generator voltage sense circuit B carries a voltage signal used by the control module to monitor and regulate generator output. P2CC1 sets when that circuit has an electrical fault, such as an open or short, that can prevent the module from receiving a reliable sense signal.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Voltage sense circuit open or short
- Faulty voltage sense circuit or connector
Symptoms
- Check-engine light
- Battery or charging system warning light
- Dim or flickering lights
- Difficulty starting or a discharged battery
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check charging-system and battery warnings to understand the conditions when circuit B failed.
- With the engine off, inspect the generator circuit B connector and wiring for loose terminals, corrosion, damage, or disconnection.
- Check the battery connections and relevant circuit protection identified in the vehicle wiring information.
- Compare voltage at circuit B with the module’s reported voltage under the conditions specified by the manufacturer.
- Test circuit B for opens or shorts between the generator and control module using the wiring diagram.
- If wiring and connections pass, test the generator sense output and module input before replacing either component.
Common fixes
- Reconnect a loose generator circuit B connector.
- Clean corroded terminals and secure battery or circuit connections.
- Repair an open or short in the voltage sense circuit B wiring.
- Replace a faulty circuit B connector or sense component if testing confirms the fault.
- Repair or replace the generator or control module only after circuit tests isolate the fault.
Can I keep driving?
Limit driving and avoid night trips or nonessential electrical loads if the charging warning is on, lights are dim, or starting is difficult; the battery may discharge and the vehicle may stall. Stop safely if electrical systems begin failing.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
