OBD-II fault code

P2CC3: Generator Voltage Sense Circuit B Low

What it means

The voltage sense circuit B for the generator reports a circuit b low condition. Generator output regulation may be impaired.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Generator voltage sense circuit B sends the control module a signal used to regulate generator output. P2CC3 sets when the module reads that signal below its expected level, commonly because the sense wire is shorted to ground or its connector has failed.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Voltage sense wire shorted to ground
  2. Faulty voltage sense circuit or connector

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light
  • Battery or charging system warning light
  • Dim or flickering lights
  • Difficulty starting or a discharged battery

How to diagnose it

  1. Review freeze-frame data and live circuit B voltage alongside battery voltage to confirm the signal is low when the fault sets.
  2. Inspect circuit B’s harness for chafing, crushed sections, or contact with grounded metal.
  3. Check the generator and module connectors for corrosion, loose pins, or a pushed-back terminal.
  4. Test circuit B for a short to ground and for continuity between the generator and module, following the wiring diagram.
  5. Measure the sense signal at both ends of the circuit and compare with the manufacturer’s specification.
  6. If wiring and terminals pass, test the generator’s sense output and module input.

Common fixes

  • Repair circuit B wiring shorted to ground.
  • Clean corroded connectors and restore secure pin contact.
  • Repair an open or damaged section of the sense wire.
  • Replace a faulty circuit B connector or sense component if confirmed by testing.
  • Repair the generator or module only when tests identify it as faulty.

Can I keep driving?

Limit driving if the battery or charging warning is on, lights are dim, or the engine is hard to start, because the battery may not recharge and the vehicle could stall. Avoid unnecessary electrical loads and stop safely if electrical functions become unreliable.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
