What it means
The voltage sense circuit B for the generator reports a circuit b range/performance condition. Generator output regulation may be impaired.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Generator voltage sense circuit B provides the control module with a signal used to regulate generator output. P2CC2 sets when that signal is present but outside its expected range or inconsistent with operating conditions, often because of a high-resistance connection or another circuit fault.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Voltage sense circuit fault
- High-resistance connection
- Faulty voltage sense circuit
Symptoms
- Check-engine light
- Battery or charging system warning light
- Dim or flickering lights
- Difficulty starting or a discharged battery
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and compare live circuit B voltage with the generator command and battery voltage when the fault occurs.
- Inspect circuit B wiring, the generator connector, and module connector for corrosion, loose pins, or damaged insulation.
- Check battery terminals and ground connections for looseness or corrosion that could affect voltage readings.
- Measure voltage drop across circuit B connections while the charging system is operating and compare with the manufacturer’s specification.
- Test circuit B continuity and check for shorts, then compare the generator sense signal with the module’s reading.
- If the circuit checks out, test the generator’s sense output and the module input using the specified procedure.
Common fixes
- Clean and tighten circuit B connector or battery connections.
- Repair high-resistance or damaged circuit B wiring.
- Replace a faulty connector or sense-circuit component confirmed by testing.
- Repair the generator or module only if its input or output fails the manufacturer’s checks.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid long trips if the charging warning appears, lights flicker, or starting becomes difficult, since unstable generator regulation can discharge the battery or disrupt electrical systems. Reduce electrical loads and stop safely if the vehicle begins losing power.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
