OBD-II fault code

P2827: Pressure Control Solenoid J Control Circuit High

What it means

The control module detects a voltage above the expected range in the pressure control solenoid J control circuit. Possible causes include a short to voltage or an open solenoid or wiring circuit.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The TCM switches the pressure control solenoid J circuit to regulate transmission hydraulic pressure. This code sets when circuit voltage is higher than expected, which can occur if the control wire contacts battery voltage, the solenoid coil or wiring is open, or a corroded connection disrupts current flow.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Control wire shorted to B+
  2. Open solenoid coil
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Check-engine or transmission warning light
  • Harsh or delayed shifts
  • Transmission may slip or hesitate
  • Transmission may enter limp mode

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and scan for related transmission electrical codes that could point to a shared harness or supply issue.
  2. Inspect solenoid J’s connector and harness for corrosion, loose or backed-out pins, damaged insulation, and contact with power wiring.
  3. Check solenoid J coil resistance and continuity against the manufacturer’s specification to identify an open coil.
  4. Test the control wire for an open and for an unwanted short to battery voltage, following the vehicle maker’s isolation procedure.
  5. If the solenoid and wiring pass, test the TCM output and connector to determine whether the module is producing the high reading.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure corroded or loose solenoid J connector terminals.
  • Repair wiring shorted to battery voltage or broken in the solenoid J control circuit.
  • Replace solenoid J if its coil is open or fails the specified electrical test.
  • Repair the TCM circuit if testing confirms the module is causing the high signal.

Can I keep driving?

Limit driving and avoid towing or hard acceleration because solenoid J may not regulate pressure correctly. Stop if the transmission slips, loses drive, or shifts unpredictably, as continued use can worsen internal damage.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
