What it means
General fault on pressure control solenoid C — third pressure regulator in transmissions with multiple independently regulated hydraulic circuits (line pressure, clutch C, torque converter clutch). The TCM detects an electrical or hydraulic anomaly that has not yet been pinned to a specific failure mode.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
Pressure control solenoid C is an electrically operated valve that helps regulate hydraulic pressure in a transmission circuit. P0795 sets when the TCM detects a fault associated with solenoid C but has not identified a specific electrical failure or performance condition.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Pressure Control Solenoid C electrical failure
- Damaged wiring or a poor connector
- Solenoid sticking or restricted hydraulic flow
- Contaminated transmission fluid
Symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on
- Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
- Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
- Slipping or shuddering during gear changes
How to diagnose it
- Read freeze-frame data and transmission live data for solenoid C commands, pressure-related readings, and the conditions present when the code set.
- Check the transmission fluid level and condition using the vehicle's specified procedure, and look for leaks or signs of contamination.
- Inspect the solenoid C connector and transmission harness for loose terminals, corrosion, fluid intrusion, or damaged insulation.
- Use the wiring diagram to test the solenoid C circuit and coil for electrical faults according to the manufacturer's specification.
- If the electrical checks pass, have solenoid C and its hydraulic passage checked for sticking or restricted flow, including the valve body if indicated.
Common fixes
- Correct low fluid level or an external leak using the vehicle's specified fluid and procedure.
- Clean, secure, or repair the solenoid C connector and its wiring.
- Replace pressure control solenoid C if testing confirms it has failed.
- Clean or repair a sticking solenoid passage or contaminated valve body as indicated by inspection.
Can I keep driving?
If shifts are harsh, delayed, or slipping, avoid towing, steep climbs, and hard acceleration, and arrange prompt diagnosis because continued slip can damage the transmission. Stop driving if the vehicle loses drive or cannot shift predictably.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
