OBD-II fault code

P0775: Pressure Control Solenoid B

What it means

Generic fault on pressure control solenoid B circuit. Either electrical or response fault depending on manufacturer.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Pressure control solenoid B is an electrically operated valve in the transmission that helps regulate hydraulic line pressure. The transmission control module (TCM) monitors its circuit and, depending on the vehicle, the pressure response; this code sets when the circuit or response is faulty.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Solenoid B defective
  2. Valve body contamination

Symptoms

  • Check engine or transmission warning light on
  • Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
  • Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
  • Slipping or shuddering during gear changes

How to diagnose it

  1. Read the freeze-frame data and transmission codes to see when the fault occurred and whether solenoid B was commanded on.
  2. Check the transmission fluid level and condition using the manufacturer's procedure, since contaminated fluid can interfere with the solenoid and valve body.
  3. Inspect the transmission case connector and wiring for loose pins, corrosion, fluid intrusion, or damage.
  4. Use live data to compare the TCM command for pressure control solenoid B with the available pressure or shift response.
  5. Test solenoid B and its wiring for continuity, shorts, and operation according to the manufacturer's procedure.
  6. If the electrical checks pass, inspect the valve body and hydraulic passages for contamination or sticking.

Common fixes

  • Repair a loose, corroded, or damaged transmission connector or harness.
  • Service the transmission fluid and filter if due or contaminated, following the manufacturer's specification.
  • Clean or repair a contaminated or sticking valve body passage.
  • Replace pressure control solenoid B if testing confirms it is faulty.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid hard acceleration and towing, especially if shifts are harsh, delayed, slipping, or the transmission enters limp mode. Continued driving with poor pressure control can worsen clutch and transmission damage.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
