What it means
The intake manifold runner position sensor or switch circuit signal on bank 2 is above the expected threshold. The code does not by itself identify the cause.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The bank 2 IMRC position sensor circuit carries the runner position signal to the control module. P2022 sets when that signal is higher than the module expects; an open signal wire, a short to battery positive, or a failed sensor can produce the high reading, so the code alone does not identify which part is at fault.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Open signal line at IMRC position sensor
- Signal shorted to B+
- Sensor element failed
Symptoms
- Check-engine light
- Possible reduced engine performance
- Possible rough running or hesitation
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and compare commanded bank 2 runner position with the sensor reading to confirm the signal is high when the code sets.
- Inspect the bank 2 sensor connector and signal harness for an unplugged terminal, corrosion, chafing, or contact with a power wire.
- Check the signal wire for continuity and test for a short to battery positive using the wiring diagram and manufacturer's procedure.
- Measure the bank 2 sensor signal and reference supply under the conditions that set the code, comparing them with the manufacturer's specification.
- If wiring and reference supply are sound, test the bank 2 position sensor through its operating range before replacing it.
Common fixes
- Reconnect or repair an open bank 2 position sensor signal wire.
- Repair a bank 2 signal wire shorted to battery positive.
- Clean or replace damaged bank 2 sensor connector terminals.
- Replace the bank 2 position sensor if it produces an out-of-range high signal despite verified wiring and supply.
Can I keep driving?
If the engine runs smoothly, drive gently and only as needed; reduced power or hesitation can affect acceleration. Avoid hard acceleration and arrange repair soon because the module may not be able to control or verify bank 2 runner position, affecting performance and emissions.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
