What it means
The position feedback signal of the IMRC flap on bank 1 is missing or implausible. Without feedback, the ECU cannot verify that the commanded runner position has been reached.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The intake manifold runner position sensor on bank 1 reports the position of that bank's runner flaps to the control module. P2014 sets when the module detects a missing or implausible position-feedback signal and cannot confirm that the flaps reached the commanded position.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Position sensor failed
- Signal wire broken
Symptoms
- Check-engine light
- Reduced engine power or sluggish acceleration
- Hesitation or uneven engine response
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and inspect live bank 1 runner command and position readings, if available, to see whether feedback is missing or implausible.
- Inspect the bank 1 position sensor connector and signal wiring for a loose plug, damaged wire, corrosion, or a pushed-back pin.
- Check sensor power, ground, and signal continuity using the wiring diagram and compare measurements with the manufacturer's specification.
- Command the bank 1 runners through their operating range, if the scan tool supports it, and observe whether the reported position changes.
- If wiring is sound but feedback remains absent or implausible, test the sensor and runner mechanism separately before replacing parts.
Common fixes
- Reconnect the bank 1 position sensor and repair loose or damaged signal wiring.
- Clean or repair corroded or pushed-back connector terminals.
- Replace the bank 1 runner position sensor if it fails the specified signal test.
- Repair a sticking or disconnected bank 1 runner mechanism if it prevents the sensor from tracking position.
Can I keep driving?
You can usually drive gently if the engine runs smoothly, though the bank 1 runners may not position correctly and acceleration may be reduced. Avoid hard acceleration and have the fault checked soon, especially if hesitation worsens.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
