OBD-II fault code

P2013: Intake Manifold Runner Control Circuit High (Bank 2)

What it means

The IMRC actuator drive line on bank 2 reads above the expected voltage threshold — typically a short to battery voltage or an open ground side.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

The intake manifold runner control actuator on bank 2 operates flaps that change airflow through that bank's intake. The control module monitors the actuator drive line, and P2013 sets when its voltage is higher than expected, commonly because the drive wire is shorted to battery voltage or the actuator's ground return is open.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Short to B+ in driver line
  2. Open ground return on actuator
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light
  • Reduced engine power or sluggish acceleration
  • Hesitation or uneven engine response

How to diagnose it

  1. Use freeze-frame data and related IMRC codes to identify when the bank 2 circuit voltage went high.
  2. Inspect the bank 2 actuator connector and harness for damage, corrosion, loose pins, or a disconnected ground return.
  3. With the wiring diagram, check the drive line for a short to battery supply and verify continuity through the actuator ground return.
  4. Measure the bank 2 solenoid winding and circuit continuity against the manufacturer's specification.
  5. If wiring and solenoid checks pass, test the control module output using the manufacturer's procedure.

Common fixes

  • Repair a bank 2 drive wire shorted to battery voltage.
  • Restore or repair the open ground return at the bank 2 actuator.
  • Clean and secure corroded or loose actuator connector pins.
  • Replace the bank 2 IMRC solenoid if it fails the specified winding test.
  • Repair the control module only if testing confirms its driver is faulty.

Can I keep driving?

Gentle driving is generally possible if the engine runs smoothly, but the bank 2 runners may not respond and acceleration may suffer. Avoid hard acceleration, and stop if the engine misfires or the warning light flashes.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
