What it means
A/C Compressor Motor Phase U Current Sensor Circuit Range/Performance: the signal is implausible or outside the valid range.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The phase U current sensor measures one part of the A/C compressor motor's electrical current, and the control module checks whether its signal is plausible for operating conditions. P0EB5 sets when the phase U reading is outside the expected range or does not agree with the system's operating state.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Current sensor failed
- Wiring fault
- Sensor element aged beyond calibration window
Symptoms
- Check-engine or hybrid system warning light
- Air conditioning may not cool
- Cooling may be intermittent
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame data and graph phase U current alongside A/C request, compressor operation, and other phase readings.
- Inspect the phase U sensor connector and wiring for corrosion, poor contact, damage, or routing near a source of electrical interference.
- Check the phase U circuit for opens, shorts, or excessive resistance according to the manufacturer's specification.
- Compare sensor output under the specified operating conditions to determine whether it is consistently implausible rather than intermittent.
- If the circuit checks out, test the phase U sensor and compressor inverter using the vehicle's service procedure.
Common fixes
- Repair poor connections or damaged wiring in the phase U sensor circuit.
- Clean or replace corroded terminals and secure the connector.
- Replace the phase U sensor if its output remains outside the specified range.
- Replace or repair the compressor inverter if tests point to its signal processing or output.
Can I keep driving?
The A/C may cool poorly or intermittently, so do not depend on it for defogging until the fault is resolved. If a hybrid-system warning or power limitation accompanies the code, follow the vehicle's warning instructions and arrange prompt diagnosis.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
