OBD-II fault code

P0EBF: A/C Compressor Motor Phase W Current Sensor Circuit Range/Performance

What it means

A/C Compressor Motor Phase W Current Sensor Circuit Range/Performance: the signal is implausible or outside the valid range.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

A current sensor monitors phase W of the A/C compressor motor so the control module can assess compressor operation. This code sets when the phase W signal is outside its valid range or does not behave as expected, even if the circuit is not plainly open or shorted.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Current sensor failed
  2. Wiring fault
  3. Sensor element aged beyond calibration window

Symptoms

  • A/C warning light or check-engine light
  • Air conditioning may cool poorly or stop cooling

How to diagnose it

  1. Use freeze-frame data and live scan readings to compare the phase W current signal with compressor commands and the other available phase readings.
  2. Inspect the phase W sensor mounting, connector, and harness for displacement, corrosion, looseness, or damage.
  3. Check the phase W circuit for continuity and shorts, following the manufacturer's wiring information.
  4. Measure the sensor output under the conditions that set the code and compare it with the manufacturer's specification.
  5. If the wiring and mounting are sound, test the phase W current sensor for drift or failure.

Common fixes

  • Restore the sensor to its proper position if its mounting has shifted.
  • Repair damaged or poorly connected phase W wiring.
  • Clean or repair corroded terminals.
  • Replace the phase W current sensor if its output is outside the manufacturer's specification.

Can I keep driving?

A/C performance may be poor or the compressor may be shut off, but this fault alone usually does not prevent ordinary driving. Follow any hybrid or EV system warnings and avoid relying on cabin cooling until the fault is resolved.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
