OBD-II fault code

P0E60: Battery Charge Mode Control Circuit Range/Performance

What it means

The battery charge mode control circuit reports a range/performance condition. Charge mode selection unreliable.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

The battery charge mode control circuit communicates the selected charging mode to the vehicle’s control module. This code sets when the reported mode is outside the expected range or does not behave consistently with the control input, making charge-mode selection unreliable.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Mode switch contacts aged
  2. High-resistance contact
  3. Sensor element aged beyond calibration window

Symptoms

  • Hybrid or EV system warning light
  • Charging behavior may change
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and check live data for the requested and reported charge modes when the fault occurs.
  2. Operate the charge-mode control through its available settings and note whether the displayed selection matches the scan-tool data.
  3. Inspect the mode switch and its connector for wear, contamination, loose pins, or damaged wiring.
  4. Check the mode-control circuit for abnormal resistance or inconsistent signal changes using the manufacturer’s specification.
  5. If the circuit and switch check out, investigate the control module or sensor calibration according to manufacturer procedures.

Common fixes

  • Clean or secure a loose mode-control connector.
  • Repair damaged wiring in the charge-mode control circuit.
  • Replace a worn or high-resistance mode switch.
  • Replace or recalibrate a faulty sensor element if testing identifies it.

Can I keep driving?

You can generally drive if there are no other warnings or drivability changes, but verify the selected charging mode before relying on it. Reduced electric range or unexpected charging behavior may continue until the fault is corrected.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
