What it means
The ECM detects a intermittent/erratic fault on the battery charger hybrid/ev battery output voltage sensor circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The battery charger’s hybrid/EV battery output voltage sensor supplies the control module with the charger output voltage. This code sets when the signal is intermittent or erratic, so the reading cannot reliably guide charging control.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sensor connector not seated
- Noisy ground reference
- Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and review output voltage and charger status for sudden or inconsistent changes.
- Inspect the voltage sensor connector for incomplete seating, loose or corroded pins, and signs of moisture.
- Check the wiring and ground reference for damage, looseness, or contact that could change with vibration.
- Following the manufacturer's safety procedure, monitor the signal while checking for changes as the harness is gently moved.
- Test the sensor and circuit against the manufacturer's specifications to distinguish an intermittent connection from a sensor fault.
Common fixes
- Reseat and secure the voltage sensor connector.
- Clean or repair loose or corroded terminals.
- Repair damaged wiring or an unstable ground reference.
- Replace the battery output voltage sensor if its signal remains erratic with sound connections.
Can I keep driving?
Charging may stop, slow down, or become unpredictable, and reduced power may limit the trip; do not count on normal electric range until charging is confirmed. Stop safely if the vehicle enters limp mode or propulsion power drops.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
