What it means
The ECM detects a high fault on the battery charger hybrid/ev battery output voltage sensor circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The battery charger’s hybrid/EV battery output voltage sensor reports charger output voltage to the control module. This code sets when the circuit signal is higher than expected, which can occur with a signal short to power, an open or resistive connection, or a faulty sensor.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal circuit short to power
- Open or high-resistance wiring or connector
- Faulty voltage sensor
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and check charger status and the reported battery output voltage to verify the high signal condition.
- Inspect the voltage sensor connector and wiring for damage, corrosion, loose terminals, or a signal wire contacting a power feed.
- Test the signal circuit for a short to power and check for an open or high resistance using the manufacturer's procedure.
- Compare sensor output and circuit behavior with the manufacturer's specifications.
- Repair any wiring or connector fault found, then retest before replacing the voltage sensor.
Common fixes
- Repair a signal wire shorted to power.
- Repair an open or high-resistance connection and clean or replace damaged terminals.
- Replace the battery output voltage sensor if it fails the specified test.
Can I keep driving?
Charging may be slowed or fail, and reduced power or limp mode may limit driving; confirm charge availability and range before relying on the vehicle. Stop safely if the power limitation makes it difficult to keep up with traffic.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
