What it means
The charger’s hybrid/EV battery output voltage sensor circuit has a fault. The code identifies a circuit problem; it does not by itself indicate a battery-cell imbalance.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The battery charger’s hybrid/EV battery output voltage sensor reports the charger’s output voltage to the control module. This code indicates a fault in that sensor circuit, so the module may not have a dependable voltage reading to manage charging.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Faulty voltage sensor
- Damaged wiring or connector
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check charger status, battery output voltage data, and related hybrid/EV warnings.
- Inspect the charger output voltage sensor connector and accessible wiring for damage, loose connections, corrosion, or moisture.
- Check whether the reported voltage changes plausibly with charger operation, using scan data and the manufacturer's diagnostic information.
- Test the sensor signal wiring and connector continuity, and check for shorts or poor connections using the manufacturer's procedure.
- Compare the sensor and circuit results with the manufacturer's specifications before deciding whether the sensor or wiring is at fault.
Common fixes
- Secure a loose sensor connector and clean corroded terminals.
- Repair damaged wiring or connector pins in the battery output voltage sensor circuit.
- Replace the charger battery output voltage sensor if it fails the specified test.
Can I keep driving?
Charging can be slowed or fail, and reduced power or limp mode may limit the trip; do not rely on normal electric range until the fault is resolved. Follow the vehicle's hybrid/EV warnings and stop safely if power becomes inadequate.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
