What it means
The charger’s hybrid/EV battery output current sensor circuit has a fault. The code indicates a circuit problem and does not by itself identify a battery-pack fault.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The battery charger’s hybrid/EV battery output current sensor measures current leaving the charger and reports it to the control module. This code identifies a fault in that sensor circuit, so the module may not be able to rely on the output current reading; it does not by itself diagnose a battery-pack fault.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Faulty current sensor
- Damaged wiring or connector
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and review charger status and battery output current data when the fault occurred.
- Inspect the output current sensor connector and accessible wiring for looseness, corrosion, moisture, or physical damage.
- Check whether the reported current responds plausibly as charger operation changes, using scan data and manufacturer diagnostic information.
- Test the sensor signal wiring and connector for continuity, shorts, and poor connections using the manufacturer's procedure.
- Compare sensor and circuit results with the manufacturer's specifications before replacing the sensor.
Common fixes
- Secure the current sensor connector and clean corroded terminals.
- Repair damaged wiring or connector pins in the output current sensor circuit.
- Replace the battery output current sensor if it fails the specified test.
Can I keep driving?
Charging may be limited or unavailable, and reduced power or limp mode may restrict driving; confirm charge status and available range before setting out. Follow hybrid/EV warnings and stop safely if power is too limited for the route.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
