What it means
The HV battery temperature sensor O reports a circuit intermittent/erratic fault. Cell-group temperature monitoring impaired on this channel.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Sensor O reports the temperature of one section of the high-voltage battery to the battery control module. This code sets when its signal changes erratically or intermittently instead of tracking temperature steadily, often because the connector or ground reference loses contact as the vehicle vibrates.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Connector not seated
- Noisy ground reference
- Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Read freeze-frame data and review Sensor O live data for sudden jumps or dropouts, especially when compared with neighboring battery temperature sensors.
- With the vehicle shut down under the manufacturer’s high-voltage safety procedure, inspect Sensor O’s connector for incomplete seating, corrosion, loose pins, or signs of movement.
- Inspect the Sensor O harness and ground-reference path for chafing, loose connections, or strain that could change with vibration.
- While monitoring live data, carefully check whether movement of the accessible low-voltage harness or connector makes Sensor O’s reading fluctuate.
- Test the ground reference, signal continuity, and terminal retention against the manufacturer’s wiring information; replace Sensor O only if the connections and wiring test sound.
Common fixes
- Fully seat and secure Sensor O’s connector.
- Clean or repair loose or corroded connector terminals and restore a sound ground-reference connection.
- Repair chafed wiring or a harness section that loses contact with vibration.
- Replace Sensor O if its signal remains intermittent with verified wiring and connections.
Can I keep driving?
Because an intermittent reading can cause the battery system to limit power or charging unexpectedly, avoid long trips if warnings or reduced power are present. Stop safely if the vehicle begins to lose power or displays a high-voltage battery warning.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
