What it means
The BMS detects a circuit fault on voltage sense channel T of the high-voltage battery. Cell-group voltage measurement is unreliable on this channel.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The BMS uses voltage sense channel T to measure a cell group in the high-voltage battery. P0B9A sets when the channel T sensing circuit has a fault, so the BMS cannot trust that group’s voltage measurement.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Open or short in the voltage-sense wiring
- Loose, corroded, or damaged connection
- Battery monitoring module fault
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and compare channel T with other battery voltage readings to establish when the fault occurred and whether its reading is implausible.
- With the vehicle powered down as the manufacturer specifies, inspect channel T wiring and connectors for damage, loose seating, or corrosion.
- Have a qualified hybrid technician check channel T connector pins and confirm the connection is secure.
- Test channel T wiring for an open or short using the manufacturer's procedure and specification.
- If wiring and connectors pass, use the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure to check the battery monitoring module's channel T input.
Common fixes
- Reseat a loose channel T connector.
- Clean or replace corroded or damaged channel T terminals.
- Repair an open or short in the channel T sense wiring.
- Repair or replace the battery monitoring module if testing confirms an internal fault.
Can I keep driving?
The BMS may restrict power or charging because it cannot verify the cell group measured by channel T. Keep driving to a minimum and arrange diagnosis soon; stop safely if reduced power makes the vehicle difficult to manage in traffic.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
